The

“Economic Engine Of The State”

 Manufacturing & Production Jobs Needed For Alabama’s 6th District

The Preamble to the United States Constitution states - “ We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” - 

As a part of that mission statement for the nation, it is recognized that the government should create positive, pro-capitalistic economic conditions that will promote the growth of private enterprise, large corporations and small businesses that will in turn provide jobs for the American people. While it is not the job of the Federal Government to create jobs - a responsible Federal Government will eliminate regulations and reduce taxes that will allow for economic development.

In the 6th District of Alabama, the number of manufacturing & production jobs is on the decline. Not one manufacturing job increase has been realized in this district over the last 16 years - almost the same amount of time that Spencer Bachus has been in office.

K.A. Turner, reporter for the Manufacturers’ News, states that manufacturing employment in Alabama sank 4.5 percent between March 2008 and March 2009. [This loss increased to 5.8 percent by October 2009]

The state lost 15,479 industrial jobs and 108 manufacturers in the 12-month period. The publisher said it was the steepest drop it had ever reported. The firm has been surveying industry since 1912. The survey found that Alabama has 6,057 manufacturers employing 329,904 workers.

Southeast Alabama accounts for nearly half of the state’s decline, losing 11 percent of its manufacturing employment or 7,313 jobs, the survey revealed. Southwest Alabama is currently home to 43,947 jobs, down 6 percent. Losses were especially felt in the lumber industry.

The publisher reported that Birmingham [and the 6th District] is the state’s leader in manufacturing employment, and is currently home to 37,198 jobs - but this is down 7 percent over the last 12 months.    The 6th District has lost 30,000 manufacturing and/or production jobs over the last 16 years and nothing has been done to replace those jobs.

I believe that the 6th Congressional District can be the “economic engine” of the State of Alabama. This vision can be accomplished by doing the following:

1- Elect true conservative leadership to Congress 

2- Reduce the size of the Federal Government 

3- Eliminate corporate taxes, capital gains taxes and taxes on business investment

4- Eliminate burdensome regulations 

5- Rebuild the District’s infrastructure 

6- Recruit manufacturers to relocate or expand to the 6th District

If elected to be your next Congressman, I promise to be an active recruiter of manufacturing jobs for the District; I promise to market the 6th District to national and global corporations; and, I promise to work to get “Big Government” out of the way of the great people of Alabama so that they can do what they do best - work, create and invent the answers that will solve the nation’s problems.
