Thomas Jefferson - the Federal Judiciary; an irresponsible body (for impeachment is scarcely a scarecrow), working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief, over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped from the States, and the government of all be consolidated into one. When all government… in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the centre of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated. (1821)
Thomas Jefferson On The Central Bank System - The central bank is an institution of the most deadly hostility existing against the Principles and form of our Constitution. I am an Enemy to all banks discounting bills or notes for anything but Coin. If the American People allow private banks to control the issuance of their currency, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the People of all their Property until their Children will wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered.

U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus defends
his vote against AIG bonus tax
The day after voting against a plan to tax AIG employees out of their taxpayer-financed bonuses, U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus was back in Birmingham explaining to frustrated constituents why he cast such an unpopular vote.
“Mainly I felt it was unconstitutional,” Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills, said Friday morning. “You shouldn’t use tax policy to punish people who you don’t agree with.”
Friday morning alone, Bachus had already talked to more than 50 constituents about his vote and he expected the questions to continue all weekend.
“When there is sort of a public outcry for action, it is tough to say, ‘Well, it’s unconstitutional,’” Bachus said. “I realize it was an unpopular vote. Am I -concerned about that? Sure I am. I’m an elected official.”
_______
What Bachus should have told everyone is how much money he has received in campaign contributions from the very organizations that received the TARP - Bailout - Stimulus money.

In a recent news story published in the Birmingham News Spencer Bachus states that Obama is a better listener than Bush, and that he [Bachus] is in favor of additional gun control.
Read his own words and see what Bachus really believes about gun control. Remember - out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
Touring his Birmingham-area district today, U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus started the day in Trussville, where he treated a breakfast of municipal and county leaders to his thoughts on guns, socialists and the federal budget.
U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, spoke to city and county officials at a breakfast in Trussville today.
As for President Barack Obama, the Vestavia Hills Republican said he has “some hope.”
“He’s a better listener than George W. Bush,” Bachus said. “He tries to get ideas from people.”
But he said he is worried that he is being steered too far by the Congress: “Some of the men and women I work with in Congress are socialists.”
Asked to clarify his comments after the breakfast speech at the Trussville Civic Center, Bachus said 17 members of the U.S. House are socialists.
Bachus did not support small city officials who asked if he would oppose all gun bans. Instead, he said, it may be necessary to support some assault weapon bans in order to keep all guns from being outlawed.
